We had a lot of fun in the library over February Half-Term. Our free creative writing classes for children were well attended, particularly by boys, which was great to see. The children let their imaginations run riot, worked really hard and created some fantastic story starters. Will one of them be the winner of BBC Radio 2’s 500 words short story competition? Well, from what we overheard being read aloud, we think that they are in with a good chance.
Throughout the week we also celebrated the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein. We made a fabulous mess with luminous green icing and created our own chocolate brownie monsters and also made some Frankenstein bookmarks.
We teamed up to become Wordgame Warriors and pitted ourselves against each other playing Scrabble and Bananagrams, a nice way to spend an afternoon when it was wet and grey outside.
We rounded the week’s activity programme off with a lovely children’s Learn to Knit class, led by Juliette and Jane. This was very well received and we hope to be able to offer a weekly Knit and Natter group for all ages very soon, watch this space.
