We thank Easingwold Co-op very much for their generous donation of £6,000 to library funds. This has been possible because local Co-op shoppers chose the library as their charity cause. We thank them too.
This money is helping us to develop the children’s area in the library. We hope to move junior books to a more spacious area, introduce colour and bright furniture, and enhance the shelving and displays. Parents and carers will have more space to choose books, sit and enjoy stories together and relax in the library helping their little ones to delight in books.
Helen Oxenbury recently recounted on Desert Island Discs how she illustrated Michael Rosen’s ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ just so that children enjoyed the story. No message. No moral. Just a good story with absorbing pictures. All kids love the squelch, squerch as the family slurp through the mud. Books bring magic and wonder into children’s lives.
The library has been run and managed by volunteers working in partnership with NYCC for over three years. As a thank you for the huge amount of time and effort that our volunteers give to the library every week the Co-op has presented us with a Christmas hamper. This was a lovely gesture and a much-appreciated fillip as we re-opened the library on Friday 4th December after the second lockdown. [Library volunteer Helen Sykes is pictured with the hamper.]
