Indian Dancing at the Library

In March 2020 we were visited by dancers from the Leeds-based Balbir Singh Dance Company from Leeds who combine traditional Kathak, modern and contemporary dance. They ran an exciting morning of dancing and story-telling for children rounding it off with a dance workshop.

2019: Half-term activities

We had a very busy half-term with three well-attended activities for children: a Lego Dream House competition with prizes kindly donated by Kier; a very successful Yarnorama wool craft session; and a Coding Club teaching youngsters how to program the BBC Microbit.  The library now seems very quiet…

Aliens Have Landed!

Several young space adventurers spent a happy afternoon on 9th August 2019 using their imaginations and creating their own aliens as part of Space Chase: The Summer Reading Challenge.   It’s not too late to sign-up for Space Chase. Just drop into the library.

A big smile for BookStart Bear

On 22 July 2019 this happy junior member finished Bear’s Reading Adventure, the first part of the BookStart Bear Club programme.  It’s always nice to be able to put such a sunny smile on a young reader’s face. It makes our work seem so worthwhile.

Space Chase launches!

July 2019 saw our volunteers going to town on the displays for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.  The theme was Space Chase, an exciting mission for our junior members to track down book-stealing aliens whilst getting in some good reading.  “To infinity and beyond!”

Half Term Activities Programme

In February 2018 we had free creative writing classes for children, celebrated the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein, became Wordgame Warriors and had a children’s Learn to Knit workshop.  It was busy, busy, busy and fun, fun, fun.

A Special Visitor

At the end of October 2017 we were thrilled to welcome award-winning poet Anneliese Emmans Dean to the Community library.  And….we also took a starring role as THE TREASURE in BBC Radio York’s treasure seeking game Finders Keepers.

The Strictly Come Dancing Display

We were ahead of the mask-makers.  They hadn’t produced a Shirley mask when our display first went on show. She did arrive but only after the photocall!

RIP Michael Bond

We celebrated all things Paddington at an impromptu Storytime after the sad news that our much-loved Bear’s creator, Michael Bond, had passed away.

Every Bunny Dance

Real bunnies hopped along to a story time session to celebrate the bunny theme of Bookstart week back in June.
