This year’s Summer Reading Challenge has a very special science theme – Gadgeteers – that will grab your curiosity and spark your imagination and creativity.
Join the Gadgeteers and discover the amazing science and innovation that makes our world tick.
Gadgeteers features amazing books, awesome rewards, and plenty of ideas for cool experiments and activities to discover the science all around you. The Challenge is being brought to life by top children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford.
How does it work?
- Join FREE at the library and get your collector’s folder.
- Read at least six books and visit the library three times during the summer holidays.
- Collect stickers, a bookmark, a Gadgeteers game and a wristband as you go.
- Complete the Challenge to receive your special eco-friendly Gadgeteers medal and a very cool certificate.
How do I join?
If you’re between 4 and 11 years old you can join in the summer fun at the library. Just pop in and ask at the desk.
Visit the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge website for more cool Gadgeteers stuff. And if you really can’t get enough, there are Gadgeteer activity sheets for you to try in the library. We also have two special summer activities – Lego Building and Junk Modelling.
Can I join the library too?
Of course you can! It only takes a few minutes and you don’t need any ID or your parents’ permission. Just drop by the library. More info about joining is here.
about the challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge is presented by The Reading Agency and will run until 10th September.. It encourages children aged from 4 to 11 years to enjoy reading for pleasure over the summer holidays. It’s a fun way for them to keep up their reading skills during the long summer break. Each year the Challenge motivates over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and conﬁdence.
