Lighting the Library

On the evening of Wednesday 11th December Easingwold Community Library joined other libraries across North Yorkshire and the country in shining a light as a symbol of solidarity and a celebration of the essential role that libraries play in the cultural fabric of our cities, towns and villages.

Libraries are open to all, don’t discriminate in offering a sense of belonging and should be treasured for all that they bring to the life of the communities they serve.

101 Stories: The Book

During 2023, the 101 Stories Community Project led by Easingwold Community Library collected real stories told by the people of Easingwold and its surrounding communities.

Everyone has a story to tell, be it a funny tale, a touching reminiscence, an influential memory or a life-affirming experience. All the stories in this entertaining and heart-warming anthology are true, told by real people in their own words and in their own way.

If you’d like to own your own copy – and who wouldn’t – you can buy it from the Blurb Bookstore where you can also see a handy preview.

It makes a lovely gift with a truly local flavour!

Wellbeing? In the bag!

Two-thirds of people may experience a mental health problem in their lifetime. Wellbeing Bags can help. They’re portable collections of items, books and activities for individuals or groups to try out at home or out and about in the community.

We have two Wellbeing Bags at the library for you to borrow for up to three weeks. One bag is for anybody to use whilst the other is tailored specially for teens and young adults. Both bags provide a variety of self-help activities that you can use as an aid to your health and wellbeing.

You’ll find them near the Community Information notice board in the library, or simply ask for them at the desk. We’ll be pleased to help. If the bag you want isn’t available, we’ll reserve it for you free of charge.

READ YOURSELF BETTER

Reading Well can help you understand and manage your health and wellbeing using well-chosen books.

The collection has been put together by health experts and people living with particular conditions. The books are grouped into five Reading Well book lists for adults, young people and children. Many of the titles are available as free digital downloads using your North Yorkshire Libraries card.

If you’re not yet a library member just pop into the library and we’ll sort you out with a card in a couple of minutes. Or you can join online here.

Need a Bus Pass or Blue Badge?

Applications for North Yorkshire Council bus passes and blue badges must be made online.  If you or someone you know needs help doing this, our trained IT Buddies are standing by.  We offer one-to-one sessions by appointment and the process takes around an hour.

Call into the library or ring us on 01609 534584 for an appointment and details of the documents you’ll need to bring with you.

A FREE service from the community library.

Can’t get to the library? We can help.

Our FREE Home Library and Information Service (HLIS) can bring books, large print books, DVD movies and audiobooks right to your door.

This service is ideal if you are unable to get to the library, cannot carry books comfortably, or if you are a busy carer. We deliver to people who live in residential and nursing homes too.

We’ll chat to you about your reading, listening and watching preferences so that we can personally tailor the selections we’ll be making for you. We’ll then deliver items to you once a fortnight, or keep them at the library for collection by a member of your family, a carer or a friend.
