New Art at the Library

This month’s mini-exhibition features work created by the folk at The Boot Shop in Easingwold.

The Boot Shop is a community-based project run by the national charity United Response supporting adults with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and/or mental health support needs in reaching their potential and gaining the lives they want.

The word ‘engagement’ is important and every piece of art on display shows the absolute engagement of each artist with their chosen media. The artists have created images that are uniquely personal to them and of which they feel justifiably proud.

Drop by the library during August and admire these wonderful pictures.

Dawn of the Robots

To complement Marvellous Makers – this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme – the library recently hosted a ‘Build a Junk Robot’ session under the guidance of Master Roboteer and artist Chris Geeson.

The event was positively rammed and the various cyborg creations were simply amazing, as you can see from this photo montage. Just for fun, can you spot which (in)famous musical brothers saw their 90s classic album achieve the ultimate immortality as part of a Woldian robot? Is that definitely or just maybe?

A big thank you to everyone who took part.

Minions Rule

To complement Marvellous Makers – this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme – the library recently hosted a ‘Make a Minion Pencil Holder’ crafting session run by the brilliant local artist Chris Geeson.

Here are some pics of a few of the fabulous Minions created on the day by our wonderfully imaginative junior customers. Felonious Gru Jr. would definitely approve and we say PEM ERN ‘EM! [Translation: we love ’em!]

A big thank you to everyone who took part.

We Love Book Groups!

We provide great support for reading groups, and using library books is much easier on the pockets of members than asking each to buy a copy of your group’s reading choices.

An annual reading group subscription gives:

  • unlimited requests for different titles;
  • up to ten copies of each title subject to availability; and
  • an extended loan period.

Just call into the library to open a reading group account. You’ll be given a group library card and information about ordering books for your group online from county library stock. Of course, you can also choose and order titles in person by calling into the library where we’ll be pleased to help.

It’s best to order titles at least two months prior to your planned meeting date and you’ll get emails as your ordered books arrive at the library. Just pop in to collect them and return them once your group has finished with them. Easy.

You’ll find lots more information about reading groups here.

Pick up a bargain

When the weather is fair, look out for our used book sale trolley just outside the front door. It’s well stocked with books that have been withdrawn from loan stock – fiction, non-fiction and books for children – and we top it up with new titles regularly.

Drop by and pick up a bargain or two. All proceeds in aid of community library funds.
