It’s nearly time to Read to the Beat! Put on those cool shades, grab something that makes a noise (perhaps not a tiger or the baby!) and celebrate the joy of music and the power it has to move, inspire and connect us – all through the magic of reading.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
If you take on the Challenge you’ll get a special ‘Read to the Beat’ collector’s folder and then stickers and other special goodies along the way. You’ll have to read six books of your choice and visit the library three times during the summer break.
To help you, we’ll have a fantastic range of exciting new books in our junior library for you to borrow and enjoy and an awesome programme of summer fun and games for you to join in.
When you complete the Challenge you’ll be awarded a medal and a very posh certificate to mark your achievement. You could make it even more memorable by having your certificate presented in assembly at your school with your friends and classmates!
HOW DO I JOIN IN?
If you’re aged between 4 and 11 years you’ll be able to sign-up for the Challenge at Easingwold Community Library FROM SATURDAY 4th JULY.
You’ll need to be a library member to take part. Joining the library is quick, easy and free.
READ TO THE BEAT EXTRA!
To complement Read to the Beat we’re offering a programme of free activities for children over the summer holidays including:
- traditional fairground games presented by Easingwold Lions;
- the chance to get down and noisy making junk music;
- stretching your creativity by crafting creatures from old CDs and other scrap;
- joining a band for a morning to bring a story to life; and
- designing and making a fantastic giant book!

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS
The Summer Reading Challenge runs until early-September. Presented by The Reading Agency, it encourages children aged from 4 to 11 years to read for pleasure during the long summer break; vital in maintaining their hard-won reading skills over the summer holidays. Each year over 700,000 children in the UK take part, enjoying over four million books. If your child takes on the Challenge – and we really do hope that they do with your encouragement and interest – it will stand them in very good stead when they return to school in September.
